The Elections Commission (EC) has decided to print the photographs and party logos of candidates on ballot papers for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Ismail Habeeb, the Vice President of EC said in a post on X that EC made this decision last week. The logo of the party on whose ticket the candidate is contesting the elections will be his/her party logo, whereas independent candidates will have the opportunity to put their own logo on the ballot paper, he said.
Habeeb said that independent candidates will use a logo submitted to EC and approved by the commission, which may not be used by another candidate. If two candidates submit the same logo, the first candidate to have submitted it will be allowed to use the logo.
The photos and logos of candidates were used in the recent presidential election as well. However, this is the first time the candidates’ photos and logos will be used in a parliamentary election.
