President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering dedication to unity, resilience, and progress in his message for Commonwealth Day, which is celebrated worldwide today. In his address, President Dr Muizzu emphasized this year’s Commonwealth Day theme, “Together We Thrive,” highlighting the nation’s firm commitment to these ideals.

He also pointed out the growing issues of global conflict and inequality, stating, “In these challenging times, let us stand together, as a testament to the power of collective action within the Commonwealth, not just to survive, but to thrive.”

The president’s message further emphasized the collective strength found in the unity of the Commonwealth family. “For us, unity is not merely a concept; it is the dynamic force that drives collaboration and empowers our communities to tackle our shared challenges,” he remarked.

Recognizing the ongoing efforts by the Commonwealth, President Dr Muizzu praised its advocacy for the interests of smaller nations like the Maldives. These initiatives include climate resilience, financial access, women’s empowerment, and youth development. “We reaffirm our commitment to the principles of democracy, human rights, good governance, and sustainable development, as outlined in the Commonwealth Charter,” he declared.

President Dr Muizzu also commended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) that took place last year in Samoa, describing it as “a testament to our commitment to unity and cooperation.” He stressed the necessity of action, adding, “It is imperative that we work together to translate the outcomes of CHOGM into tangible action.” In conclusion, President Dr Muizzu assured that the Maldives is ready to enhance its partnership with the Commonwealth and its member states to ensure a future where every citizen of the Commonwealth can thrive.

Commonwealth Day, which falls on the second Monday of March each year, serves as a chance to celebrate the shared values and principles of the Commonwealth, including peace and justice.
