Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will not succeed in their attempt to remove President Mohamed Nasheed from his position as speaker of the People’s Majlis, said Member of Parliament for Central Henveiru Constituency, Ali Azim today.
Speaking to journalists after the party’s parliamentary group passed a no-confidence motion against Nasheed today, Ali Azim said that the party will not be able to collect the signatures needed to submit the motion to the Parliament and that the motion will not be moved. He also said that MDP comprises of members who have faith in President Nasheed.
Noting that regardless of the party’s attempts inside the parliament, a sizeable amount of members still support President Nasheed, Azim said that they have the people’s support.
Furthermore, Azim said the President’s Office would decide on Nasheed’s removal from the post of Speaker of Parliament.
