The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued white alert across southern atolls and yellow alert for remainder of the Maldives due to bad weather.

The white alert has been issued for islands between L. Atoll and Addu City from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. in the morning. According to MET Office, heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of 45 mph are expected in these areas during these hours.

Additionally, MET Office has issued yellow alert from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for islands between H.A. Atoll and Th. Atoll. According to MET Office, torrential rain, thunderstorms, strong winds for 25-30 mph and gust winds of 55 mph with rough seas are expected in these areas during these hours

Weather forecasts say that between 08 p.m. tonight and 08 p.m. tomorrow night, fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country.

Furhtermore, MET Office predicts that surface winds are expected to be southwest/westerly at 13 – 23 miles per hour and Winds may gust to 40 miles per hour during showers.

The forecast also says that the seas are expected to be rough and swell surges expected during high tides.

Therefore, MET Office has advised all parties to practice caution when traveling.
