The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has extended the yellow alert for the southern atolls of Maldives due to bad weather.

The yellow alert has been issued for islands between L. Atoll and Addu City from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. today. According to MET Office, heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of 45 mph with rough seas are expected in these areas during these hours.

Weather forecasts say that between 10 a.m. today and 10.am. tomorrow morning, scattered rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country.

Furthermore, MET Office says that surface winds are expected south/southwesterly at 13 – 23 miles per. Winds may gust 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be rough and heavy rain and strong winds are expected. Therefore, MET Office has advised all parties especially seafarers to practice caution when traveling.
