Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail has stated the administration’s target is to restart tourism industry in the month of July.

Speaking at a press conference held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) Minister Fayyaz stated if the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives is contained by this month, the plan is to restart the economy within the country. Fayyaz said the administration also targets to restart tourism industry in the month of July. He also stated strategies to restart the tourism industry is currently being planned by the Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed. He further stated all final decisions will be taken by allocated task forces adding instructions set forth by health specialist will be strictly followed before taking any actions.

The global economy have been disrupted since the COVID-19 global pandemic. Maldives is also facing severe economic recession due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
