Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Mabrouq Azeez stated arrangements to send back undocumented expats are underway.

Speaking at a press conference held at NEOC, Mabrouq said arrangements to send back 1,500 undocumented expats will be carried out next week adding some had already been sent back to their native counties. Mabrouq also stated the administration is making arrangements to send back undocumented expats living in Greater Male’ Region and in other parts of Maldives as well. He further stated a number of undocumented and unemployed expats have already been moved to quarantine facilities under orders from Director General of Public Health. However, the quarantine facilities can only facilitate a total of 3000 individuals.

While Maldives have reported a total 551 cases of COVID-19, the majority of cases reported are of Bangladesh expatriates, a total of 282 cases.
