The Government of India is facilitating the repatriation of Indian nationals stranded in Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an announcement published by the Government of India stated the government is facilitating the return of Indian nationals stranded abroad on compelling grounds. The announcement further stated the travel would be arranged by aircraft and naval ship adding the facility would be made available on payment-basis. It also stated a medical screening would be done before travelling and only asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to travel.
In regard to this, the High Commission of India in Maldives stated the first phase of repatriating 700 Indians in Maldives begins on May 8 from Male’ to Kochi by an Indian naval ship. The High Commission of India further stated the commission is reaching out to Indian nationals who wish to travel on compelling grounds.
While Maldives have reported a total 551 cases of COVID-19, 52 Indian nationals have also tested positive for the virus in Maldives.
