The Ministry of Tourism has declared that over 50,000 Chinese visitors have arrived in the Maldives this year. This indicates a significant upsurge in Chinese travel to the island nation.

378,245 tourists had arrived in the Maldives as of February 24. Compared to the same period in 2023, when 325,423 arrivals were reported, this is a 16.2% increase.

With 51,984 visits, China is presently the country that brings in the most tourists to the Maldives. Russia (36,423), Italy (35,834), the United Kingdom (33,401), and India (25,096) are some of the other top source markets.

Currently, 7,744 tourists arrive in the Maldives every day on average, and they stay for an average of 7.8 days. Notably, 10,213 arrivals in a single day on February 10th broke all previous records.

The first goal set by the administration for 2024 was two million visits from tourists. The Ministry of Tourism now anticipates that the real figure will surpass this target, possibly coming in at about 2.3 million tourists.
