Minister of Tourism, Mr. Abdulla Mausoom has arrived in Addu City to take part in the event to mark 75 years since “British Loyalty” was torpedoed. British Loyalty was a ship used by the British during World War II.

On his trip, Minister Mausoom will be accompanied by Ministry of Tourism’s Senior Policy Director, Mr. Ibrahim Farhad Ali, Senior Policy Director, Mr. Mohamed Kussan, Marketing Policy Consultant, Ms. Fathimath Hima Mohamed Waheed and Senior Administrative Officer, Ms. Hawwa Nadhra Mohamed.

The event to mark the 75th anniversary of British Loyalty wreck is an initiative by Nalafehi Meedhoo, in collaboration with Addu City Council and other relevant government authorities, Addu City’s dive centers, tourist resorts and guesthouses. The event is scheduled to kickstart on 05 January 2021.

Speaking about this event, “British Loyalty Diamon Jubilee Steering Committee” said that the inauguration ceremony of the event at Maradhoo harbour will be followed by a dive to the British Loyalty wreck by a team of 75 divers. The photos of the dive taken underwater and by drones will be released to the world at the time of the event.

The British Loyalty was torpedoed in the year 1944 by the German submarine, U-183.
