Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq stated the decision to close all business avenues after 1800hrs everyday was taken after discussing with the Director General of Public Health and Addu COVID-19 Task Force.

Addu City Council released a statement to close all business avenues in Addu City after 1800hr every day, effective from March 26. Regarding the statement, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Service (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez stated Addu City Council took the decision without discussing the matter with Health Protection Agency (HPA). Following this, Addu City Mayor tweeted the measures were taken after discussing with the Director General of Public Health and Addu COVID-19 Task Force. Mayor further stated the council will be taking all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the public from the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the precautionary measures taken by the council, the city council Addu City Council decided to close all business avenues in Addu City after 1800hrs every day in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. In a statement released by the city council, all shops, cafes and restaurants in the city should only be open from 0600hrs to 1800hrs every day, effective from March 26.

Moreover, the council also stated restaurants and cafes’ will be permitted to do delivery services from 1800hrs to 2200hrs after requesting a special permit from the Island Office. Additionally, businesses opened for 24hrs are also advised to request a special permit from the Island Office.
