The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that the presidential election will be held on September 09 this year.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the President of EC, Fuad Thawfeeq said 280,000 people are eligible to vote in this year’s presidential election. And, if it goes to a second round, the election will be held on September 30, 2023, he said.

The Election Commission has adopted the slogan “My Thought – My Vote” for the upcoming presidential election.

The applications for candidacy will be open from 23 July 2023 to 03 August 2023, while the applications for officials will be open from 25 July 2023 to 13 August 2023.

The candidates will be allowed to campaign for the election from 10 August 2023 to 08 September 2023. A total of 145 polling stations will be set up in Male’, 47 in Hulhumale’, 10 in Villimale and 327 in the islands. In addition, 12 ballot boxes will be placed abroad for this year’s elections.
