Addu City Council has voted in favour of building 200 flats in Hithadhoo and 75 flats in Feydhoo under the PSIP project.

The decision was finalised on 4 Jan at 33 meetings held by the city council. During the meeting, the councillors have raised serious concerns on equal distribution of flats to all areas of the city.

Speaking on the following, Hithadhoo Rasgendhara Constituency Councilor – Hussain Zareer stated that the council earlier on had planned to only build 200 flats. However, plans change after a trip was made to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. After the discussion with the president, it was concluded that 275 flats would be constructed in Addu City.

Despite the project being planned to process according to plan. Addu city councillors have stated that the following is not a sufficient amount for the residence of the city and furthermore raised concern over the issue of Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo not being included in the following housing project. Speaking on the following, Deputy Mayor also stated that the following housing unit is not enough as well and also noted more flats are needed. The mayor has also started the issue of land use plan is a very key issue for the city.

Speaking on the flat issue, Councilor Faisal for Feydhoo Maadhela Constituency has started that demand for housing is within the interconnected islands and to meet the demands 1500 housing units are needed to tackle the housing issue.

According to the city council, under the PSIP project, the city council has already allocated 510000 sqft in Hithadhoo and 25000 sqft in Feydhoo.
