Elections Commission of the Maldives has confirmed vote ballot boxes will not be placed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and London, United Kingdon for the upcoming Local Council Election.

The President of the Elections Commission, Mr. Ahmed Shareef said in a tweet yesterday that it has been confirmed that permission to place ballot boxes in Malaysia and London will not be granted.

Malaysia and London are still seeing a steady and rapid increase in the number of Covid-19 cases. Due to this, the precautionary measures in both Malaysia and UK have been strengthened.

Elections Commission previously noted the challenges in holding the elections with the difficulties in budget and also while adhering to HPA guidelines.

As of now, the elections are scheduled to be held on 03rd April 2021.
