The Health Protection Agency of the Maldives (HPA) has confirmed that 880 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the Maldives. This includes the 554 people who were vaccinated yesterday.

According to HPA, a total of 666 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the Greater Male’ Area, where a total of six vaccination centres have been established.

The vaccine currently being used in the Maldives is the Covishield vaccine developed by the AstraZeneca-Oxford University, and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

India gifted 100,000 doses of the vaccine to the Maldives, which will be used to vaccinate 50,000 people as each person requires two doses of the vaccine. The government of Maldives is also trying to procure another 700,000 doses of the vaccine, which are expected to arrive in March.
