Speaker of Parliament and former president Mohamed Nasheed has stated the government is well prepared for a community spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
Following a positive case of COVID-19 found in Male’ with no travel history, Nasheed tweeted health experts have earlier warned of a possibility of such a situation. He further stated there is no need to worry or panic as the government is well prepared for a community spread in residential islands.
A local was tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ on April 15. She consulted the flu clinic near Male’ Hiya on April 14. The local is currently transferred to an isolation facility. Health Protection Agency (HPA) is conducting contract tracing of anyone who came in contact with the individual. This is the 6th Maldivian national who tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives.
Moreover, HPA appealed to the public to follow the orders and instructions of the administration and Public Health. HPA also advised the public to maintain social distancing and not to go outside unless necessary.
