President Ibrahim Solih announced resort staff will only be permitted to leave the resort 14 days
after the departure of all tourist.
Speaking at a press conference held regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic, President Solih stated
resort staff are only permitted to leave the resort 14 days after the departure of all tourist in an
effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
During the press conference president announced the suspension of issuing on arrival visa to all
foreign nationals starting March 27, resulting in all operations in resorts coming to a halted. In this
regard, president said 50 resorts across the nation has closed down so far and all resorts are
estimated to be closed within the next two weeks.
Concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has earlier placed a travel ban
on resorts following the State of Public Health declared in Maldives, effective since March 14 till
further notice.
