Addu City Council has decided to close all business avenues in Addu City after 1800hrs every day in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.
In a statement released by the city council, all shops, cafes and restaurants in the city should only be open from 0600hrs to 1800hrs every day, effective from March 26. The council also said restaurants and cafes’ will be permitted to do delivery services from 1800hrs to 2200hrs after requesting a special permit from the Island Office. Additionally, businesses opened for 24hrs are also advised to request a special permit from the Island Office.
Moreover, the city council stated food truck services will only be permitted for areas with proper hand washing stations. The council further stated food trucks are not permitted to sell short eats, coffee and “maskaashi” adding food trucks must remove any chairs and tables set up in the area.
The city council has stated any individual violating the orders will be punishable by law.
