The Health Protection Agency of the Maldives (HPA) has confirmed that almost 10,000 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine in the Maldives. This includes the 554 people who were vaccinated yesterday.
According to HPA, a total of 2,898 people received the Covid-19 vaccine yesterday. Amongst these, 2,375 were vaccinated in the Greater Male’ Area, while 523 of the vaccinations are from the atolls.
Furthermore, so far a total of 9,752 people have received the Covid-19 vaccine across Maldives, including 7,963 in the Greater Male’ Area and 1,789 from the atolls.
The vaccine currently being used in the Maldives is the Covishield vaccine developed by the AstraZeneca-Oxford University, and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
India gifted 100,000 doses of the vaccine to the Maldives, which will be used to vaccinate 50,000 people as each person requires two doses of the vaccine. The government of Maldives is also trying to procure another 700,000 doses of the vaccine, which are expected to arrive in March.
