Addu Equitorial Hospital (AEH) has successfully performed their first major surgery.

AEH stated the surgery led by Dr. Munshid was a hip fracture of an 82 year old adding the patient is doing well. AEH additionally stated, instruments and facilities to perform the hospitals first major surgery was contributed by Indhira Gandi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Moreover, all services provided at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital (HRH) have been transferred to AEH on April 16. However, HRH will continue to provide flue clinic services during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

AEH was initially established as the Addu Equatorial Convention Centre in Hithadhoo by former President Mohamed Nasheed for the 17th SAARC Summit held in November 2011. Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdulla Gayoom during his administration made the decision to convert the convention center into a 100-bed tertiary hospital.
