Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Skills Development, Ali Ihusaan has reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to eliminating the exploitation of expatriate workers and creating a fairer working environment across the Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News during a Workers’ Day march in Malé, which drew large numbers of participants from various sectors, the minister outlined ongoing efforts to address long-standing labour issues.
He stressed that protecting the rights, safety, and wellbeing of both Maldivian and foreign workers remains a top priority. According to Ihusaan, the government is focused on identifying key challenges and implementing comprehensive solutions.
“The government is working hard to prevent the exploitation of foreign workers in the Maldives, while also ensuring better working conditions for Maldivians,” he said.
The minister added that increasing employment opportunities for locals and resolving worker grievances swiftly are among the administration’s immediate goals.
Highlighting the significance of Workers’ Day, Ihusaan noted that it serves as an important reminder of the vital role workers play in national development. The march, organised by the ministry, brought together workers from diverse backgrounds in a show of unity and appreciation for their contributions.
