Elections Commission (EC) has stated that enrollment in political parties can now only be done through e-Faas.
According to the updated regulations, individuals can join political parties exclusively by completing forms available on the Elections Commission’s “My Portal.” Once a form is submitted and accepted, the respective party will be notified.
Before adding someone to a party’s register, the Elections Commission is required to check if there have been any complaints lodged. Additionally, the amendment mandates that parties keep online forms for a duration of 10 years.
This change comes in response to an increase in fraudulent party enrollments. In the last six months, there have been reports of 300 cases where individuals were unknowingly registered in political parties.
The issue gained attention after the ruling People’s National Congress experienced a dramatic rise in membership from 3,000 to 60,000 during its recruitment campaign. As a result, the existing registration portal has been temporarily suspended while the system undergoes security enhancements.
