Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced an individual who traveled to Cochin, India with his family is placed under isolation in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC), Mohamed Mabrouq Azeez stated the individual consulted Addu Equatorial Hospital with mild symptoms of cold. Mabrouq also said the individual did not mention his travel history during his visit, therefore the doctor and nurses who consulted him were not in protective suits. He further stated the doctor and two nurses who consulted the individual are currently placed under isolation in the hospital. Regarding this, Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Sodiq stated 5 individuals are placed under home isolation.

Additionally, after arrival to Maldives the individual and his family were placed under home isolation as per HPA protocol. However, the individual’s wife who works as a medical translator in Addu Equatorial Hospital violated the protocol by going to work before the completion of the 14 day quarantine period. She did not show any symptoms of COVID-19.

A total of 6 individuals were tested for COVID-19 in Maldives and they all have tested negative for the virus.
