Yumna Maumoon, former minister of heritage, claims that the previous administration allowed business lettersheads and documents to be posted on various parts of the islands designated for business reasons, and it did not consider the usage of Maldivian official names on name boards for an extended period of time.
Yumna made the comments in response to a written response requested by Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed.
During the legislative session, a question posed by Ibrahim Rasheed in October was addressed.
Yumna claimed in her letter that the National Centre for the Protection of Cultural Heritage failed to do an adequate job of managing the ministry and its office, which was plagued with a number of problems. It’s unclear, though, just what the difficulties were.
Nonetheless, it has been observed that some effort has always been made in this area.
Yumna reported that English names are being used instead of the Maldivian names that are customarily used on several islands that are designated for business purposes, particularly those associated to tourism.
The goal of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is to maintain national pride and make necessary corrections. He declared that the Maldives’ language, history, culture, and customs would receive unprecedented priority from his government.
