According to President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Palestinian people’s struggle is for liberation, and defending the nation should not be associated with terrorism.
In a recent interview with Channel News Asia (CNA), Dr. Muizzu stated that Maldivians have supported the Palestinian people in their fight for rights since the beginning of time.
Prior to the Jewish occupation, he acknowledged the 1967 demarcation and declared that the Maldivians desired their own sovereign Palestine with Quds serving as its capital.
Dr. Muizzu stated that the Palestinian people ought to have the freedom to work for their nation’s independence since it is a right protected by international law.
However, Dr. Muizzu expressed his grave concern that as the Palestinian conflict grew more intense, radicalism and Muslims became more closely associated and dispersed globally.
“It is really concerning that attempts are made to incite hatred towards Islam whenever the Palestinian crisis is high. It is unfair that when Palestinians defend their rights, they attempt to incite hatred towards Islam. It ought not to be any different.”
Islam is a religion of peace, according to Dr. Muizzu.
“The struggle and the call for the liberation of the Palestinian people should not be associated with it (terrorism). The history and reality of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are widely known.”
Pro-Israel, anti-Palestinian forces are attempting to depict Hamas, which has been fighting for the Palestinian cause, as a terrorist group. However, Israel keeps attacking Palestinians without considering hospitals, mosques, women, or children.
