Equator Village has opened applications for its apprenticeship program for the year 2020.

Equator Village, which has formerly been awarded ‘Best Airport Hotel’ at Maldives’ Travel Awards twice, has successfully conducted apprenticeship programs in the past as well and trained several youngsters in the tourism industry.

The resort has previously trained many students from secondary and higher secondary schools of Addu City under such programs.

For instance, students of Irushadhiyya School have been participating in Equator Village’s apprenticeship program since 2016. The principal of Irushadhiyya School, Mr. Mohamed Nasir has said that such opportunities provided by Equator Village are very beneficial and that the apprenticeship program teaches many essential skills to the students.

“It has been about five years since our school has been sending students to participate in Equator Village’s apprenticeship program. Every year one batch of students complete their training there. Even the parents are not hesitant at all to send their children to Equator Village. The parents also know that the environment there is good for the students and that the trainers there are capable and experienced professionals. It is obvious that students who come back after completing the nearly three months long apprenticeship program have learned a lot of things and opened their eyes to the industry well”, Mr. Nasir said.

While students from Villa College also have previously completed the apprenticeship program at Equator Village, many of them who were interested in pursuing a career in tourism and hospitality have been offered placements at the resort.

Moreover, when Equator Village hosted the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA), then apprentices of the program were given the opportunity to work with the international delegation of SATA.

Equator Village has been widely noted as a resort that aids in several initiatives organised for the betterment and development of the community.
