As a further measure to safeguard customers, Bank of Maldives (BML)  on Friday activated email alerts for all failed login attempts on Internet or Mobile Banking, in addition to issuing new login alerts.

In this regard, if Internet or Mobile Banking is disabled after three straight failed login attempts, an extra email alert will be sent to the customers’ registered email addresses.

According to BML, the notifications have been activated to keep customers informed of any efforts to login to their Internet or Mobile Banking. Customers were also urged to change their passwords immediately if any unusual login activity was detected.

Furthermore, they have urged customers not to share their Internet and Mobile Banking usernames and passwords with anyone, as well as to change passwords on a regular basis and to use strong passwords at all times.

With the rise in scams, BML has taken several precautions to protect customers. The bank enabled One Time Password (OTP) for all Scan to Pay payments in this respect. The bank also started sending login alerts and push notifications for all Internet and Mobile Banking transactions, as well as introducing authenticator apps to generate OTPs and disabling email as the default OTP channel.

“Scams evolve over time, and the Bank will continue to protect customers and implement additional security features in the coming weeks,” the bank added.
