The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives has revealed that 8,015 tourists from China have arrived in Maldives between 18th January 2023 and 15th February 2023.

China resumed direct flights to Maldives on January 18 after a nearly three-year hiatus after the 2019 pandemic suspended direct flights between Maldives and China. On that day alone, 198 tourists arrived from China, which ranks at number eight on the list of top tourist arrival countries to Maldives.

According to Chinese newspapers, the increase in the number of people seeking information about Maldives has come into force after the agreement signed between China and Maldives to issue on-arrival visas. This is under the visa-free agreement signed between Maldives and China last year. However, the implementation of the agreement has been postponed due to the coronavirus situation.

There is a lot of interest in Maldives among the Chinese people with the easy travel arrangements. Last Friday, China’s online travel agency Gunar.com saw a 126 percent increase in searches for Maldives.
