The chairman of Redwave, one of the Maldives’ largest wholesale and retail businesses, has stated that despite offering high prices, the company was not permitted to open a shop in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

After officially opening the 12th Redwave store in the male’ area this evening, Saleem made the comments while addressing the media. According to Saleem, many residents of Hulhumale’s phase 2, would like to see a Redwave shop open.

Redwave has bid on all of the available opportunities to run the shop in the area. The company offered high prices as well, but was denied the opportunity.

“We offered a high price, but they simply did not give us the chance. We do not expect being given the opportunity to open a store in Phase Two,” he stated.

Saleem also stated that Redwave is attempting to provide goods to the public at reasonable prices. Saleem pointed out that some of the goods were already being sold at lower prices than compared to the state-run trading company STO.

Salim stated that, despite the increase in GST, people will be able to obtain goods at lower prices if the businesses are conducted based on the prices at which goods are sold by various businesses.

Salim is the minority leader in parliament and the leader of the opposition Progressive/Congress coalition’s parliamentary group.
