Ali Hussain, Kendhoo MP and lawyer, has accused the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of “indulging in disciplinary bait” in order to influence judges.

Miuvaan Mohamed, spokesperson for the President’s Office, stated yesterday at a press conference held at the President’s Office that the government did not interfere in any way with the judiciary.
Miuvaan, on the other hand, did not respond to a question about the JSC’s recent launch of an inquiry into the recent supreme court judge Mahaz Ali Zahir’ case.

Ali Hussain responded to the news by tweeting, “It is not possible to say that the judges are not disciplined through JSC, which has compromised people’s trust and it is still lacking in the judiciary.”

Last year, on the day the Supreme Court acquitted former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, a lunch invitation was sent to the court by a supporter of President Yameen, at which Mahaz was apparently present.

However, when the case was investigated more than a year after the verdict was issued, the JSC was confronted with numerous questions. Following the complaint, Mahaz claimed that he had personally paid for his meal and requested that the matter be investigated openly.
