With a 1-2 win over Denmark on Sunday, France became the first team to advance to the second round of the FIFA World Cup.

In their first encounter of the tournament, they defeated Australia 1-4. France maintains its lead at the top of the table with six points after tonight’s victory. In their final group encounter, France will face Tunisia.

With three points, Australia is second in the group. Denmark, in third place, and Tunisia, in last place, each have one point. With a draw against Denmark in their final group game, Australia has a chance to advance to the second round.

In the first half of the game, neither team had many decent scoring chances. France dominated the game, but Denmark’s defense was effective in preventing the French offensive.

All three goals were scored in the second half of the game. In the 61st minute, Kylian Mbappé scored his first goal. Mbappé deflected Theo Hernández’s shot from the edge of the area into the far corner. However,  Andreas Christensen quickly equalized for Denmark.

Mbappé scored France’s victory in the 86th minute. Antoine Griezmann’s cross from close range was blocked by Denmark’s defenders, but Mbappé ran past the Danish defenders.

It was Mbappé’s seventh goal in nine World Cup appearances. Just Fontaine is the Frenchman who, compared to Mbappé, has scored more goals throughout the World Cup. He has a total of 13 goals to his name.

Argentina and Mexico will square off in the World Cup match, which begins at 12:00 a.m. IST today. There is a lot of pressure on Argentina as they  will be eliminated from the World Cup if they lose to Mexico.
