Maldives has been awarded the Guinness World Record in free diving. The program known as “Neyvaa 2” was held for the sole purpose of making it into the world records. The award was presented during a gala dinner night which was held to celebrate the splendid achievement in free diving that “Neyvaa 2” earned.
The award was given away by Swapnil Dangarikar, a representative of Guinness, to the founder of Free Dive of Maldives Fahud Faiz.
In 2019, “Free Dive World Record” a title initiated by the Maldives was included in the Guinness book officially. It started with 521 divers from the Maldives. The Maldives has been trying to achieve great things in the world, one of them is making a mark in the World Records book. To attain such, a diving program was launched this year as well with 452 divers.
President Mohammed Solih and their family were awarded a Certificate of Participation. The was received by the President himself during gala dinner night for their involvement in ‘Neyvaa 2’ which was held on 1st October of last month. Additionally, certificates were awarded to individuals who assisted with the program.
‘Neyva 2’ initiated by Free Dive Maldives is one of the most prominent and successful projects aimed to get a spot in the World Records book that has been instigated especially during the golden year of Tourism in the country. A total of 12 resorts participated in this project, where participants from around the country dived underwater at the same time consecutively. The team consisted of Maldivian divers as well as foreign divers who, under the guidelines of Guinness World Records, held their breath underwater for one minute and 30 seconds. Out of the 459 divers who participated, 452 divers were able to successfully stay underwater for the duration, making the Maldives the first country to have so many divers dive at the same time and stay underwater for that amount of time.
In the first event of the such kind held by Dive Maldives in 2019, a total of 521 people dived simultaneously, making a world record.
