A fire broke out inside a garage in the capital city, which was put out by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue.

The fire broke out inside a garage in G. Columbia in Galolhu district on Thursday around 4 p.m.

As soon as the fire broke out, residents in the building and surrounding structures were forced to flee their homes.

Residents on the street claimed they heard explosions coming from the garage, where a motorcycle had caught fire and been destroyed.

The MNDF Fire and Rescue team arrived roughly 15 minutes after the fire started and put it out in less than half an hour.

Although no serious casualties have been reported as a result of the fire, an expatriate worker at the garage is said to have suffered minor injuries.
