India’s not-for-profit NGO, Madhya Pradesh Association of Women Entrepreneurs (MAWE) has presented MAWE Achievement Awards to 4 Maldivian women entrepreneurs.

The award was presented at a conference held by the NGO that kicked off on March 24. The International Women Entrepreneur Conference SWEEP – 2022 was inaugurated by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan at Kushabhau Thakrey Memorial Hall in Bhopal.

This year’s award was won by Dr Mariyam Shakeela – Former Health Minister, Shaira Saleem – CEO of Sheri Maldives and Chairperson for Women Entrepreneurs Association – Maldives and Shimla Ahmed – CEO of AO news and President of Southern Community Empowerment Association of Maldives (SCEAM), and Aishath Ibrahim – Founder of Aysha Hair Salon. Amongst the award winners, the highest achievement was received by Dr Mariyam Shakeela winning the “women of eminence” award. While Sharia Saleem, Aishath Ibrahim and Shimla Ahmed won the high achievement awards.

Maldivian Deligation

Apart from the award ceremony, the conference was attended by a Maldivian delegation which comprised Shidhatha Shareef – Former Gender Minister, Dr Mariyam Shakeela – Former Health Minister and the Southern Community Empowerment Association of Maldives. The conference had also hosted women entrepreneurs from 14 states across India.

The participating women entrepreneurs at the conference learned about ways of doing business, expanding their business. They have an opportunity to learn from international delegates about exporting at a small level.

SWEEP-2022 is the third edition of this international event organized every two years by MAWE – Madhya Pradesh Association of Women Entrepreneurs.
