The Ministry of transport has stated the Kaadedhdhoo Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll would be handed over to Villa air in February.
The handover of the airport is under the supreme court order. The airport was handed over to Villa Air for development and management for a period of 50 years. Nonetheless, the agreement was terminated during former president Yameen’s term.
After the termination villa air had filed a lawsuit against the state in Civil Court. The civil court ruled in favour of Villa air and ordered the government to hand over the airport to Villa air. Since then, eight months have passed since the ruling and the transport ministry has yet to hand over Villa Air.
According to Minister of State Mr Zuhair, the airport would is expected to be fully handed over by the Mid of February and work is underway to finalise all needed works. Currently Kaadhedhoo Airport is being operated by regional airports.
