Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to prosecute former Minister of Home Affairs, Umar Naseer over a corruption case relating to electronic tags.

Umar Naseer is being accused of manipulating the procurement process and misuse of of official authority under Section 513 (b) of the Penal Code.

The contract was awarded to Stalwart Maldives in 2015 during Umar Naseer time in office. According to ACC, there investigation found that Umar Naseer has close ties with Stalwart Maldives.

Despite the allegations Umar Naseer has denied all clams and any wrong doing and pointed out he has received all approvals from related authorities at time. However, ACC is seeking to prosecute Umar Naseer for awarding a government contract to procure electronic monitoring tags based on a relationship between both parties.
