SriLankan Airlines has resumed operation to Addu city after a two-year hiatus.

The airline suspended its operations last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed operations on December 4, 2021. The first scheduled flight landed at Addu’s Gan International Airport (GIA) on Saturday afternoon around 1:30 pm Maldivian Time. A special ceremony was held at the airport to welcome the guests and aircraft today. The special ceremony was conducted with several senior officials from several ministries in attendance.

SriLankan plans to operate weekly one flight to GIA every Saturday. The airline’s local agent, Ace Aviation’s owner, Mohamed Firaq has stated that they would increase flights based on the demand.

The airline first resumed flights to Addu City on Dec 2021 and the airline opened an office in the city on November 1, 2016.
