According to the words said by the mayor Mr. Abdullah Sodiq, Addu City was struck by a newer variant of Covid 19. Since this cluster of Covid has been spreading rapidly, Health Professionals have stated that we may be dealing with a newer and a much stronger variant of Covid 19. Investigations are going on to confirm if this claim is true or false, states the mayor.
Tonight, while conferencing about the latest information virtually with the journalists, The mayor has also stated that individuals who have come into contact with already positive cases in Addu City, are being tested positive even thought they were in contact for a very short period of time. Henceforth, Addu is in a very fragile state right now. He has advised everyone to do what they can to stay safe from the virus outbreak. Which is the best available option right now.
As there has already been two cluster found in Addu, Hulhumeedhoo cluster has 26 positive migrant workers and Hithadhoo cluster has 18 confirmed cases with in locals as of 18:00pm yesterday (February 08th 2021). Also today, Restaurants and Cafe’s in Addu has been temporarily asked to stop their In-House dining services and asked them to carry on with Takeaway or delivery services while following the set guidelines by the Health Protection Agency.
As soon as the virus broke out in Addu, Schools were shut down temporarily till the Covid situation gets better. Mayor has stated that more guidelines will be set in the near future to make sure the public is in safer hands. He has asked the public to comply with all the Guidelines set by Health protection services and the local Social Support Desks.
