All schools in Addu City will be closed from tomorrow onwards, due to the city being placed under monitoring by the Health Protection Agency of the Maldives.

The lockdown comes after two positive cases were identified from two people tested at the Flu Clinic in Hithadhoo.

Earlier, Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City was also placed under monitoring after some expatriates at Hulhumeedhoo MTCC work site tested positive for the coronavirus.

Regarding the current situation, Mayor of Addu City, Mr. Abdulla Sodiq said that so far the contacts traced from the two positive cases include family members residing with them and their colleagues.

However, Mayor said that the entire city has been locked down as a precautionary measure in case more contacts are found from other towns, as majority of the towns of the city are connected by land and contact tracing is still ongoing.
