The Health Protection Agency of the Maldives has placed Addu City under monitoring until further notice.

Earlier today, two patients who consulted the Flu Clinic at Addu Equatorial Hospital tested positive.

As per HPA’s announcement, all non-essential travel is now banned citywide and no persons will be allowed in the city without direct approval from HPA.

Amongst the two people that tested positive for Covid-19 today, one is a resident of Hithadhoo and our sources confirm that both of them work at the same place.

Regarding the current situation, Mayor of Addu City, Mr. Abdulla Sodiq said that so far the contacts traced from the two positive cases include family members residing with them and their colleagues.

However, Mayor said that the entire city has been locked down as a precautionary measure in case more contacts are found from other towns, as majority of the towns of the city are connected by land and contact tracing is still ongoing.
