“tomorrow we will start vaccinating people for Covid-19 in the Maldives. I thank the almighty Allah, and I pray the with this vaccine, we all will be blessed with a peaceful and a safer environment for us. Ameen” Says the president while addressing the topic of vaccines on a tweet.
Today, Vaccines will be available to the public in 5 areas within Male’. Vaccines will also be available for the public in Addu City and Kulhudhuffushi City!
The vaccine that will be provided for the public in Maldives is the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 CoviShield vaccine. 100,000 doses of the vaccine have been gifted to Maldives by India! Since each individual needs to receive 2 doses to complete vaccination vaccines will be only given to 50,000 individuals.
In the greater Male’ area, vaccinating will be done in IGMH, ADK hospital, Hulhumale’ hospital, Tree Top hospital and Villimale’ hospital. In Addu City, vaccinations will be done in Addu Equatorial hospital and in Kulhudhuffushi, it will be done in Kulhudhuffushi regional hospital.
To avoid getting COVID-19, more than 20,000 people have registered themselves, to be injected with the vaccine! To register for the vaccine, you must register yourself on the portal my.health.mv . The portal is open first for the Health care workers, and Social care workers.
Vaccines produced against COVID-19 has been tested on specific age groups. Children below 16 years haven’t been used to test for the vaccine, Henceforth, the vaccine will not be given to children below 16 years. According to Health protection Services.
