The 12th edition of biannual joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force, known as “Ex Ekuverin,” has begun.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that the exercise is currently taking place at Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The exercise alternates between India and Maldives.
MNDF said that this year’s Exercise Ekuverin is scheduled to run from 11th to 24th June, spanning a duration of 14 days. The participation of the MNDF Marine Corps aims to enhance interoperability in counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism operations, as well as conducting joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, said MNDF.
The exercise primarily focuses on sharing best practices, enhancing coordination, and fostering cooperation between the forces at a tactical level.
The 11th edition of this exercise, which strengthens the economic, cultural, and military ties between both countries, was previously held in the Maldives in December 2021.
