President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the rollout of electricity payment eases to mosques starting next month. He made the announcement while meeting Kulhudhuffushi residents on Monday night. The payment relaxation is brought about by levying electricity tariffs at domestic rates for all mosques.
During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu announced this change to address the substantial electricity expenses incurred by local councils in Malé City and other cities and islands. The goal is to allow councils to utilise their limited block grant funds more effectively in serving the people. Additionally, the Administration will explore alternative methods to compensate FENAKA and STELCO for the resulting loss. The President further revealed plans to gradually ease electricity payments for street lights, parks, and other public spaces as the economy recovers.
President Dr Muizzu additionally highlighted the Administration’s regional development policy. He discussed plans to create a development zone spanning the four northernmost atolls, with Kulhudhuffushi City serving as the central hub for this initiative. The President emphasised several development initiatives slated for Kulhudhuffushi City, including housing projects, airport development, port expansion, and healthcare advancements.
