Thirty wheelchairs have been donated by the Bank of Maldives to Maldivians with special needs.

According to a bank statement, the bank’s flagship scheme, which donates wheelchairs to individuals with special needs, was introduced in 2017.

Yesterday, the bank shared a statement stating that it had given wheelchairs to 230 individuals with disabilities nationwide thus far.

Two varieties of wheelchairs are offered by the bank. For children and the elderly who are unable to move around independently, there are manual wheelchairs that can be moved with assistance from a carer, as well as contemporary powered wheelchairs that allow users to get around independently.

According to sources, only thirty wheelchair donations will be made this time. According to the initiative, 90 islands are currently covered.

BML has already helped individuals with special needs a great deal. The establishment of the Guraidhoo Centre for Persons with Special Needs has been greatly aided by the bank. Furthermore, the Bank has provided assistance to the Maldives Deaf Association and the Maldives Association of People with Disabilities in carrying out their respective programmes.
