The Pakistan High Commission in Hulhumale held a cake cutting ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate the 58th Independence Day of the Maldives. The event was organized by the Pakistan Maldives Friendship Association (PMFA) and the Pakistan High Commission.

While speaking at the cake cutting ceremony which was attended by Pakistani and Maldivian fellows, the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Zulqurnain Ahmad highlighted the importance of the occasion. He said that the Independence Day is an occasion to retrospect into the glorious past of the country and its freedom freedom struggle. Speaking further, he also said that it is a fusion of nationalism, patriotism, brotherhood, respect, tribute and similar sentiments.

Speaking at the ceremony, the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Maldives, H.E. Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani extended his heartfelt felicitations to the Government and the people of the Maldives on the jubilant occasion of the Independence Day. He highlighted that Pakistan and Maldives have been enjoying cordial relations since long and said that it is a blessing that the relationship between the two countries is based on common faith, culture, mutual trust and respect. He also noted that Pakistanis consider Maldives as their second home and similarly, Pakistan is home to many Maldivians.

“We are working with the Government of the Maldives in social sector, education, health, sports and capacity building. We are confident that the fraternal and brotherly ties between our two countries will continue to flourish in the times to come”, he said.

The High Commissioner wished the Maldives continued progress, development and prosperity.
