The 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council began today in Geneva, Switzerland. The session will be held from 19 June 2023 to 14 July 2023.
During the Session, the Maldives delegation will deliver national statements under several agenda items, in line with the Government’s key policies and priorities. The Maldives will also be delivering a joint statement for the Annual Panel on Adverse Impacts of Climate Change on behalf of a group of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) based in Geneva. Additionally, the Maldives, together with a cross regional core group, will present a resolution extending the mandate of Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers.
The Maldives delegation for the 53rd Session of the Human Rights Council is led by His Excellency Dr. Asim Ahmed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva. The delegation includes Ms. Hawla Ahmed Didi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Mr. Hassan Hussain Shihab, Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Ms. Aminath Shifaya Ibrahim, Counsellor of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Ms. Maryam Fathika Fayaz, Second Secretary of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva and Ms. Nafha Hassan, Third Secretary of the Maldives Mission to the United Nations Offices at Geneva.
