Five Nations Championship 2023 basketball tournament, the first international basketball tournament held in the Maldives this year has commenced at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
The tournament will take June 14 to 22, 2023 at MCSE indoor hall. Vice President Faisal Naseem attended the opening ceremony of the tournament on Wednesday.
During the ceremony, the Vice President met with the Maldives and Bangladeshi basketball teams and watched their game. The Maldives team had trained in Bengaluru, India, to prepare for the competition. Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan are also participating in the tournament.
This administration has been working to promote the Maldives as a sports destination and provide opportunities for local athletes to compete against international teams. The tournament is part of these efforts, and the administration plans to host other international sporting events in the Maldives to enable local athletes to compete and advance at the international level. This will be the country’s third international basketball tournament during this administration.
