President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed on Saturday the government’s plan to develop two additional islands within the lagoon of Nilandhoo Island, facilitating the establishment of resorts to enhance employment prospects and boost tourism opportunities for the local community.
He made these remarks in his meeting with the residential community of Nilandhoo Island in the Faafu Atoll.
President Solih, accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a government delegation, commenced a visit to the atoll Saturday morning, beginning with Nilandhoo Island. In his meeting with the residential community of Nilandhoo Island, the President expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended to them upon arrival.
Speaking at the meeting meeting further, he reiterated the administration’s overarching objective of attaining comprehensive national progress by prioritising the development of all islands and fulfilling the aspirations of every individual.
Addressing the community of Nilandhoo Island, the President underscored the fulfilment of numerous projects requested by the island residents during his previous visit. Providing an update on the progress, the President highlighted the completion of most of these projects while informing the community about ongoing developmental initiatives in the area.
President Solih also announced upcoming initiatives to address the residents’ pressing needs, including the commencement of harbour and coastline protection projects. He also added that the construction of a police station would soon commence.
In the meeting, the residents of Nilandhoo provided the President with a comprehensive briefing on their urgent needs and the challenges they were encountering. They shared with the President the community’s requirements in various domains, including road construction, the need for expanded space in the council office, the development of the hospital and school, and the enhancement of sports facilities.
At the meeting, the President conveyed his commitment to collaborate closely with the administration and relevant authorities to address the concerns the citizens raised effectively.
