The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined Sh. Feevah Council for removing a large amount of sand and gravel from the beach.
In a statement issued yesterday, EPA revealed that on 07 October 2022, the agency received a complaint about the removal of a large amount of sand and gravel from Feevah beach. Upon investigation, the EPA has found 25 sacks of sand and 20 sacks of gravel were taken from the beach and used to develop a children’s park.
Therefore, under the subsection 2 2011/R-9 (Environmental Damage Liability Regulation) made under Act No. 93/4 (Environmental Protection and Preservation Act of Maldives), the Secretariat of the North Miladhunmadulu Feevah Council has been fined MVR 83,525, said EPA.
Additionally, EPA has ordered the Secretariat of the North Miladhunmadulu Feevah Council on 12 January 2023 to pay the fine within 30 days including public holidays.
