Every year, on October 27, people all around the world commemorate “Kashmir Black Day” to remember the day, on October 27, 1947, when India forcibly seized control of the state of Jammu and Kashmir without basis. This Day serves as a reminder of the legendary bravery and tenacity Kashmiris have displayed by resisting Indian occupation forces for the past 75 years.

In honour of “Kashmir Black Day,” a reception was held at the Pakistan High Commission. The Deputy head of Mission Zulqurnain Ahmad emphasised the United Nations Resolution on Kashmir and put the Kashmir dispute in historical perspective.

He emphasised that the Articles 370 and 35A provided significant legal protections that limited non-Kashmiris from gaining jobs, buying land, and permanently living in IIOJK while denouncing the illegal activities of India on August 5, 2019, regarding the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. The entire goal of India’s abrogation of the aforementioned Articles was to eliminate this restriction and, as a result, make the non-Kashmiri Hindu population in IIOJK lawful, which would have reduced the region’s Muslim majority to a minority.

He paid respect to the Kashmiri leaders who sacrificed their lives in defence of their legal and fundamental right to self-determination. He claimed that while enduring the worst types of persecution, our Kashmiri brothers and sisters had shown remarkable bravery and perseverance.

Speaking during the event, H.E. Vice Admiral (R) Ather Mukhtar, High Commissioner, stated that India has not succeeded in subjugating the Kashmiri people as of this day. All Indian efforts at coercion and control have been repulsed by the untold sacrifices and tenacity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. People in Kashmir still possess a strong sense of resolve. The High Commissioner emphasised that Pakistan, while calling for an immediate end to the Indian government’s illegal and unilateral acts of August 5, 2019, also urged other nations to take concrete action to keep their promises to the Kashmiri people.

The United National Security Council Resolutions, he underscored, contain the answer to the Kashmir dispute. Only a settlement of the Kashmir conflict in accordance with UNSC Resolutions and in line with Kashmiris’ aspirations can bring about the long-term peace and stability of South Asia.

In addition, the High Commissioner underlined Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people until their right to self-determination is realised.
